Women’s Tea Party is held.

December 15, 1873

Organized by Lucy Stone and others, it is sponsored by the New England Woman’s Suffrage Association and before a capacity crowd at Faneuil Hall. One of many the events marking the centennial of the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Daily Advertiser writes that it includes a “galaxy of the shining lights in the female suffrage moment,” including Mary Livermore, Lucy Stone, and Julia Ward Howe, who call for equality for women and the right to vote and protest “taxation without representation.” Male supporters present include Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and Wendell Phillips.
